Colleen was again given the opportunity to
participate in Challenge Air.
She not only got to ride in the airplane, she actually took the controls
for a while as they cruised around the sky over Kansas City. After they
landed, the pilot also let her help steer and taxi the plane to the
hangar. Daddy went along for the ride, but, again, he was not allowed
anywhere near the controls. He can't be trusted around all those
buttons. He was in charge of the camera.
The CHAMPS demo team again provided demonstrations of karate and
self-defense techniques.
There were many service dogs in training present. Their trainers bring
them to events like this to help the dogs learn how to handle crowds and
the hustle and bustle of busy activities.
The fire department came with several trucks and allowed the children to
climb in and on them. The Sunchasers Model Airplane Club came with many
of their planes.
Various companies and schools provide hands-on activities that teach
about basic science principles and flying. They also provide a computer
flight simulator for those who want to try "flying" on their own.
